I am board-certified in Orthopedic Surgery in both the United States and also in Canada as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons. I am originally from Canada and I completed medical school at the University of British Columbia in 1994 in Vancouver, Canada. I stayed at the University and completed my orthopedic residency in 1999. My first spine fellowship was at the University of Western Ontario, in London, Ontario, focusing on degenerative disorders of the spine. My second fellowship was in England at the Queens Medical Center in Nottingham England under Mr. John Webb. This was an international AO fellowship and allowed me to observe complex spinal disorders and the treatment. I continued a fellowship in Europe, training in France as well.
I have lived in Denver since 2001 and I am happy to have made it my home with my partner Clariel and our twin boys Stellan and Lachlan. I joined Peak Orthopedics and Spine in 2008. This reunited me with 2 colleagues from my training in Vancouver, Drs. Loucks and Greenhow.
I have held a number of positions while in Denver. I have served as the medical director at the Musculoskeletal Center in Thornton and was the department chair of Orthopedics at North Suburban Medical Center. I held an appointment from the University of Colorado to assist them in their coverage and services as personnel were called for the war on terror.
I believe in offering a patient a surgical option that encompasses the least amount of surgery for the greatest amount of benefit to maximize early mobilization after surgery. I specialize in the MySpine technology, which involves patient-specific guides that allow for a smaller incision, less surgical exposure, and greater accuracy in the placement of fixation for patients requiring a low back fusion. This has allowed my patients to avoid a lengthy hospital stay and to go home within 23 hours and in some cases, the same day. I embrace motion preservation and the use of disc replacements whenever possible for the treatment of cervical (neck) spine disorders.
