Dr. Clinkscales is a fellowship-trained, orthopedic hand and upper extremity surgeon who joined HSA in 1998 after three years of teaching full time at UC Health. After completing a degree in Religion from Davidson College (NC), he earned a medical degree from Emory University in Atlanta (GA). Dr. Clinkscales completed residency training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester (MN) and completed his fellowship training at the Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center in Indianapolis.

Honored by 5280 Magazine as one of Denver’s top doctors, Dr. Clinkscales regularly contributes to medical education by delivering presentations, publishing articles and demonstrating cutting-edge techniques in hand and upper extremity care.

Dr. Clinkscales has loved being able to raise his family in Colorado. More recently, he has enjoyed embarking on a variety of international medical missions alongside his wife and two sons. Dr. Clinkscales spends his free time traveling, skiing, scuba diving, or just reading especially if it’s with family or friends.

Specific interests include work injuries, sports injuries, nerve compressions (such as carpal tunnel syndrome) hand arthritis, scaphoid fractures and non-unions, as well as nerve repair.

Carpal tunnel surgery in both hands done by Dr. Clinkscales and his team/colleagues at Focus Hand & Arm Surgery Center. Post op physical therapy at Orthopedic Centers of Colorado.Every single person I have met on this journey have been excellent and I highly recommend Dr. Clinkscales as the surgeon. He's a doctor that cares about his patients.

I was referred to Dr. Clinkscales for a possible Dupuytren's Disease of the right hand. Exam determined that I was suffering from Stenosing Tenosynovitis commonly known as Trigger Finger which is treated with Cortisone injections. Prior to treatment I was loosing the strength of my grip. The injections have allowed me to maintain the strength of my grip. The experience with Dr. Clinkscales was very pleasant and enjoyable. With any hand treatment it is best to consider that someone should be available to drive afterwards. I do consider a 5 * rating for this experience.

Complicated hand surgery. Every detail explained and options given. Can never begin to thank Dr Clinkscales for his brilliant skills as a surgeon. Office staff are incredible. Always on time, helpful, extremely skilled in each field they work in.

Staff is always extremely helpful and sweet. Dr Clinkscales is fantastic. He is friendly, attentive, and intelligent. His communication is great and I have always felt like a priority to the office.

Dr Clinkscales is wonderful. He is easy to talk to, clearly explained what was going on with my hand, went over all of my options and took time to make sure all my questions were answered. And he has a personality that puts you at ease. Staff were all friendly, helpful and efficient.

I would definitely recommend Dr. Carlton Clinkscale for your hand problems. He listened to me, I didn’t feel hurried & he asked many questions! Excellent environment in the office & very nice, friendly employees! Dr. Clinkscale was understanding & very compassionate about my Rheumatoid Arthritis & my hand problems. He has a good sense of humor & made me fell at ease. Dr. Clinkscale is at the top of his specialty!
