Michael S. Shen, MD
Originally from Colorado, Dr. Shen has always considered southern Denver his home. Growing up and going to Homestead Elementary, West Middle, and then Cherry Creek High, Dr. Shen never left Colorado until he sought his undergraduate work at the University of California at San Diego. There, he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology. From the sunny, warm shores of southern California, he then found himself in the frigid cold of New England, where he attended medical school at Tufts University in Boston. It wasn’t until medical school that Dr. Shen found his interest and calling in Orthopedics. Once dedicated to becoming an orthopedist, he sought further training at some of the most prestigious orthopedics and spine programs in the United States. He completed his orthopedics residency at New York University (NYU)/Hospital for Joint Disease in New York City and continued his education in spine surgery, completing his spine fellowship at the Spine Institute at Saint John’s Health Center in Los Angeles.
After traveling from coast to coast, Dr. Shen returned to Colorado, where he practiced for almost four years in northwest Denver before finally returning home to Southern Denver once again to serve the community in which he himself grew up by joining Advanced Orthopedics.
Dr. Shen is fellowship-trained and board-certified in Orthopedic Spine Surgery. He utilizes the most recent conservative methods and surgically the most up-to-date technology and techniques to treat all disorders of the neck, mid-back, and lower back. Dr. Shen has extensive experience with treating all disorders of the spine and has been fellowship-trained in the newest techniques and technology in orthopedic spine surgery. He has particular interests in minimally invasive surgery, microsurgery, and non-fusion/motion preservation technology, including artificial disc replacement, dynamic stabilization, and nuclear replacement.
